Managing Change Assignment

"Change management is not a matter of simply following steps. No two changes are
exactly alike, nor are any two organizations. Following a recipe for change management
is insufficient to drive business results. The right approach will be specific to the
situation. If you do not understand the why behind your actions as a change management
practitioner, changes can fail even when reputable change management processes are
followed" The question of "why" these activities or strategies are used, such as the
following, are worth investigating.

    1.   Why do business leaders need to communicate directly with employees instead of
using the normal chain of command?
     2.   Why are change management practitioners not the best people to manage
        resistance with employees?
      3.  Why are the "designers" of the change often the worst at managing the people
       side of that same change?
       4. Why are supervisors and managers preferred communicators, even more so than
         the project team?
       5. Why do background conversations and the rumor mill sometimes carry more
weight with employees than the "official" communications?
6.Why do employees resist change, even when the change is a "good" idea for
    everyone?

The seven guiding principles that can impact the change management activities are
shown in Figure 1."

COURSE WORK
Assignment

Due Date: (June 03, 2011)

By 12.00 midnight (Singapore & Malaysia time)

It is a norm for academicians and business executives to paint portraits of
exemplary and successful business  leaders as those being equipped with specific
skills and attributes. In recent years however, the tools and emphasis of being
successful 21st Century leaders seems to include considerations beyond
conventional skills and roles played by leaders. The rise and fall of the Enron
Corporation for instance merely confirms the emerging trends and challenge of
business leaders to act and function in ethically and morally responsible ways.
Business leaders are said to be in the driver‟s seat in exerting and possessing
tremendous power that shape and direct the ethics mindfulness and social
responsibility among members of its organization.”

By analyzing the archive of material available on Enron Corporation, provide critical
arguments in support or against the statement that „Leaders from Enron are
accountable for its downfall as they were not ethically and morally responsible”.
Strengthen your analysis by providing cogent facts and evaluating the role played by
the charismatic leaders, Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling in the fall of Enron
Corporation. Finally discuss and consider emerging trends and best practices in
business leadership, and what changes in “leadership philosophy” that you would
have recommended for Enron (prior to its fall) that may have prevented its collapse.

E-Marketing assignment

You are required to submit a report for a case-study organization outlining a proposed e-marketing strategy for that organization. The report is addressed to the owners of the organization and you are to write it as if you are a consultant engaged to develop the report. You should use recognized theories and models to support your recommendations. The report (in management-report format) should identify and critically analyse the fundamental issues related to e-marketing strategy and show clear evidence of synthesis and evaluation of the subject in the recommendations given to the organization.

CASE STUDY: THE RESTAURANT
Musa was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur. After studying cooking at college he trained under several leading chefs in his native country before working in several high profile restaurants around the world. Now approaching 50, he has decided to return to his home city and open his own restaurant.
The location has been selected and the building is currently under-going repairs and renovation and should be ready for customers in three months time. The site is in a convenient prime location in the centre of Kuala Lumpur which will attract customers from both locals and tourists.
Musa will act as head chef, and he has recruited two other chefs with international reputations to act as his assistants and to cook when he is not available. His wife Aisyah, who has an MBA and has held senior management positions in several blue-chip companies, will be his business partner and will take an active role in the running of the restaurant. Such is Musa’s devotion to his home-city that he intends to operate a foundation scheme that will provide training positions for ten young people from under-privileged background every year.
Musa and Aisyah have decided the venture will be called simply- The restaurant.
Aisyah will handle the local advertising and promotion, but she has no experience of using any aspect of the Internet as part of her marketing strategy.  To date no marketing – off- or online- has been undertaken.

Hi,

Thank you for the speedy response. I have another 2 assignments with me which requires your assistance.

Below is the assignment question.

Examine the relevance and importance of the concept of Global Business Fitness to your organisation (or one which you are familiar) or a specific business issue.”

Preferably I would like to write about Citibank, which I am currently working in now.

Attached is one of the journals written by the principal lecturer and he would like us to refer to it.

The final one will be Project Management, which is a case study. I don’t have a soft copy of it now, but I’ll try to photograph it and send it ASAP along with the guidelines the lecturer gave.

One thing which worries me is the completion date you gave, which is 10 June 2011. The submission date for all 3 subjects is actually 6 May 2011 (Friday).

Thank you.

Giving a Rodent's Posterior about IFRS

I love the way that the author introduces this article:

Anyone Who Gives a Rat’s Behind About IFRS Needs to Mark July 7 on Their Calendars
By CALEB NEWQUIST

Cause there’s gonna be a roundtable.

The Securities and Exchange Commission staff announced today that it will sponsor a roundtable in July to discuss benefits or challenges in potentially incorporating International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) into the financial reporting system for U.S. issuers.

The July 7 event will feature three panels representing investors, smaller public companies, and regulators. The panel discussions will focus on topics such as investor understanding of IFRS and the impact on smaller public companies and on the regulatory environment of incorporating IFRS.

“We must carefully consider and deliberate whether incorporating IFRS into our financial reporting system is in the best interest of U.S. investors and markets,” said SEC Chief Accountant James Kroeker. “This roundtable will provide an excellent opportunity for investors, preparers, and regulators to provide the SEC staff with valuable information that will help the Commission in its ongoing consideration of incorporating IFRS.”

See you there. If you manage to recover from your July 4th meat sweats, that is.
